Description

Design on mugs is reminiscent of a German Renaissance cartouche-like framework with its bold, fanciful volutes and elegant festoons the severity peculiar to German decoration from the commencement of the XVIIth century.

Classic mug is perfect for coffee, tea and hot chocolate and pretty enough to become a modern heirloom. Durable ceramic mug comes in the most popular size. Makes it an appreciated gift to every true hot beverage lover or mug collector.

Mug is part of a collection of six Renaissance period mugs, all featuring six different remarkable elaborations of detail by the decorative artist to produce an impression of vivid colours and rich gold, recalling medieval colour decoration, but at the same time by the invention of new forms to create novel and charming effects.

With their rich and magnificent decoration, these coffee mugs will put you in mind of the interior designs of a celebrated Church at Freudenstadt, built by the Ducal Architect Heinrich Schickhardt, of Herrenberg.  Observe the capricious and rather wild imagination in the detail painted on these mugs, a splendid composition by the painter Jakob Zuberlein.

As is met with, and to a still greater extent in Wendel Dietterleins designs, we can see how agreeable and harmonious is the impression produced by the rich colouring of the decoration and details, we cannot but pay high respect to this period of Renaissance Art.

Not unlike today, the aim in the decoration was to break with the old traditions, and to create new forms on entirely rational principles — an experiment which was attended with marked success.
